Because I'm addicted to bad ideas and all the beauty in this world

Hi, I figured that I should give some indication that I'm alive.

So the most awesome thing to happen to me in the last two weeks was having Angie here!  I got to see her last Sunday, when her, me, Fyre, and Kol met up at the Legion of Honor museum (uh I think we only spent like ten minutes in the museum though), and went on a hike first to the Sutro Baths (LITERATELY a hike, it was an insane walk but totally worth it), and then hung out in Japantown a bit and bitched about the X-Men movies.  On the Tuesday after that, I took the afternoon off and went up to Berkeley, which was gorgeous as always.  I got some time with Angie, walking around and looking at shoes and BUYING LOTS OF BOOKS and then met up with Fyre, and then we went to a hardcore awesome French resturuant.  I had French pizza!  And we argued over Castlevania.  Then went home and watched an episode of the Supernatural anime which is SO, SO BAD.   In conclusion:  I <3 Angie hardcore and I really can't wait to visit Casa Derp in January.

The last week and a half of work has been really stressful because I've been the only person in my department!  Which is particularly bad when you've only been in your particular job for a month, and the CEO is making data requests that you aren't totally capable of responding to.  But I survived, and I didn't break anything or cry hysterically or anything horrible, so I think all is well.  Manager returns tomorrow from her vacation and I think I'll kiss her feet first-thing.

SO I HOPE YOU ALL KNOW BY NOW THAT THE SAILOR MOON AND SAILOR V MANGA ARE OUT.  I bought my copies the first day...but still haven't had the time to read the Sailor V one T_T.   I also finished Behemoth by Scott Westerfield, which was just as brilliant as Leviathan before it.   At the half-price book store, I bought Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenence by Robert Pirsig, The Gods Themselves and Robots and Empire by Isaac Asimov, The Songmaster by Orson Scott Card, and Mars by Ben Bova.

However!  Ingrid and I were looking over the SF/F YA Novels with Major LGBTQ characters listing, and we wanted to buy and read at least one book on the list.  We picked The Dark Wife by Sarah Diemer, which I am all over cause I love the Hades and Persephone myth and reinterpretations of it.  So I will find that book tomorrow at BN, and I want to try and see if I can read and exercise at the same time.  My gut says that it might not work, but I have to make SOME time in my day to read.

For knitting, I've been working on these socks, in bright pink, plum, and royal purple.  They will be awesome.  I also have started going to a Friday evening knitting club, one in walking distance from my job, so I'm looking forward to that now each week.

Nanowrimo season is drawing close, and I'm trying to narrow down what ideas I want to work with.  One would be a reboot of a decent YA urban fantasy book I did a pile of years ago, which had a lot of charm but was really problematic by a thematic and technical point of view.  Another would be a retelling of Rainbow Brite actually - Ingrid and I were watching the RB movie during Fanime and were totally in awe of how Rainbow Brite is the stoic bitch goddess of her world, literately killing her opponent without batting an eyelash and being rather cold and inhuman for a majority of the film.  I have ideas about human perception and the soul that I would integrate in the story, and RB would not be the POV character, though a lot of the circumstances in the story are directed by her choices, since she is the god of that world.   A third idea which is less likely to happen is my Beauty and the Beast story, because I've really wanted to play with the idea of Beauty as the Beast.  I think that one is less likely to happen, but then again I have more of the plot for that one drawn out.  So it's there as the back-up.

For tags, I really want to plow through PW tags this week and get caught up there.  And I want to work with Angie on getting our Kaito/Asami story up and going.  Silvermoon has been a super bunch of fun too and I'm really happy Z talked me into it - and I really only hesitated because though I wanted to make an Endymion really badly, I was worried that it looked bad for me to take Tamahome in PW and then Endy in SM, like I'm a weird bishonen RP collector.  WHICH I GUESS I AM.  Oh well.  I'm super-stoked for both games and can't wait to get plots really rolling.

Lastly, Netflix.  I burned through This Ugly Yet Beautiful World and I really would not recommend it to anybody except for those who love being disappointed.  It started out with a SERIOUSLY AWESOME premise that went absolutely nowhere - literately out of the 12 episodes of the series, 8 were stupid filler episodes like the hot springs episode!  or the haunted forest episode! or the beach episode!   It made me pretty angry actually by the end of it because there was zero complexity to any of the characters, and you really didn't believe that anybody learned anything at the end of the bizarre sequence of events.  I started watching Inspector Gadget, which is always the most beautiful thing in my life, and I started to watch The Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes with Kol, which is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.  I did not realize that Captain America was such a derp, and also such a badass fighter.  And the VA they have for Iron Man is really wonderful. I also realized that Netflix now has Airplane, which was a favorite movie for me and my brothers when we were little, so that is def getting a rewatch.

Oh, and I bought tickets to the San Francisco Nutcracker Ballet c:   For those who don't know, I'm massively obsessed by the Nutcracker ballet, and you know, if I'm living next to one of the most major productions of it in the world, I PROBABLY SHOULD GO.  The tickets were a splurge too, but I think worth it for the nice orchestra seats.

I should probably sleep before work tomorrow.  TA TA.
