OKAY SO
I'm feeling mostly better, so time I started this post.
MY CRAZY LAST TWO MONTHS: THE CATALOG
March 27th: QUIT MY JOB AT MACY'S. MUCH REJOICING.
April 3rd: ANGIE THROWS A PARTY IN CELEBRATION OF ME ABANDONING HER :D
April 5th: DAY WE LEFT BETHLEHEM FOR VEGAS NOOOOOOOOOOOO. We drive from Bethlehem to Columbus, OH. Wawa hoagies we smuggled into Ohio were delicious. SURLY GIRL WAS A FREAKING AMAZING BAR. Also saw the Thunderpussy Video Store? Which was odd.
April 6th: Columbus to St. Louis. In the early morning, we went to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which I drooled immensely over, and I got to sit on the motorcycle from I, Robot, so I now consider my crotch one degree away from Will Smith's. We got MILE HIGH PIE right outside of town. That night, we hit a pub I think was called the Iron Pig but I can't quite remember, which was a place Guy Fieri had reviewed. Did not realize that ruebens could be vegetarian!
April 7th: St. Louis to Oklahoma City. That morning we had gotten lost trying to find a donut shop Alton Brown recommended, and DAMN WAS HE RIGHT ABOUT THAT. We got six donuts when we should have gotten like, 40. I go Exorcist on Angie in the car. I considered the Ozarks the most beautiful leg of the trip, with purple mountains galore, especially in the morning light. Angie and I started in on really bizarre AUs at this point, I believe, like Genderswap Band AU and the Adult Superstore + Subway AU. We were weary that night, so nothing fun happened.
April 8th: Oklahoma City to Albequerque. What a busy morning that was. We started by going to the Federal Building bombing site in OC, which no shitting was the most beautiful memorial I had ever seen, and had me tearing up behind my sunglasses. Please see it if you have a chance. Then we went to the National Cowboy Museum which was AWESOME and surprisingly beautiful and not-hokey. I would really like to revisit that place, if I could. I think we stopped at a Rt. 66 museum as well, which had a neat little fabricated 50's town in it. That night I suffer a minor nervous breakdown and we went to Applebee's for my cure in form of a Long Island Iced Tea.
April 9th: Albequerque to LAS VEGAS. Boy this leg of the trip was suicide, we really should have split it in half. Wish I could have spent a little more time in Alb. but whatever. Stopped at Flagstaff for lunch at this really badass cafe that it turns out Guy Fieri also reviewed. We see snow along the side of the road in Flagstaff too. We intended on going to the Grand Canyon but it was just way out of the way. We drive over the Hoover Dam which is a freaking 2 hour adventure, but damn is the bridge above it beautiful. Then, VEGAS.
April 10th -12th: Angie hangs around in Vegas for a few days, which is lovely. We do stuff with Pixie but I forgot what, except for the car breaking down XDDDD Angie and I say goodbye at the LV Airport Monday morning :<
April 18th- April 22nd : ALAS, MY TRAVELS HAVE JUST BEGUN. I drive 9 hours to SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA in order to visit KOL in her kingdom! Oh man that was fun. While Kol and I met during the Feburary KingdomCon, I really didn't get the chance to talk to her much, so this was a chance for me to corner her and monopolize all of her time for myself!!!!!! We did: a massive IKEA run (which was AWESOME plus we had Togo's too), wandered the Rose Garden, the Egyptian museum (CANNOT CONTAIN MY GLEE), amazing burger place, Santana Row, Winchester Mystery House, SAN FRANCISCO WITH IT'S BRIDGE AND IT'S SCARY AS HELL STREETS. We intended on writing and shit but mostly giggled like idiots and watched Soul Eater. San Jose = gorgeous as hell.
April 25th-May 16th: THE SAGA OF K. From April 25th to May 6th, she was here in Las Vegas, and from May 6th to May 16th I was in Montanaland. In Vegas, we saw Zumanity, which was totally thrilling and really not what I expected (mostly in good ways, though I had thought it'd be more risque than it was. The clowns alone were worth it though), LOTS OF DINING AND LOTS OF SHOPPING. It was really the first time I had the chance to explore Vegas, and so we got to wander the Strip once or twice, go to the Benihana with Pixie, did a loop pretty much around the town once or twice (my favorite being exploring the Venetican, totally). We meant to do a good bit of writing and sewing stuff in Vegas but ended up sleeping and playing card games a majority of the time, which was still absolutely cool. I seem blessed with friends who I can talk to for like, THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT and still be sane with.
In Montanaland was finally a chance to slow down a little bit. I beat Professor Layton and the Curious Village, a file I had started back in my last visit, then got obsessed for a few days with Rune Factory. Also, I forced K to play Rock Band with me a lot (kinda wish I could show you guys the avatars I made for that game, all based on my Gesma and Arcadia chars XD ). GOT MY HAIR CUT into its current short hotness. Saw Clash of the Titans, which I loved in all of its badly acted glory (REDEEMED CAUSE THEY GAVE ME AN AWESOME SHIP). I got into a bit of a funk towards the end because I was starting to feel the pressures of JOBHUNT, but a lot of that was remedied by a very long walk and also a horseback riding tour near the Rockies, which had an amazing snow-covered mountain view from where we were riding (also I got the notion for CARD GAMES ON HORSEBACK, Spanish Inquisition era AU for YGO 5Ds, and only time will tell if I do anything with it) XD
May 17th- 25th: IN VEGAS, WORKING MY ASS OFF ON THE TAIKI COSTUME. Cue insanity.
May 26th- June 2nd: FANIME MUTHAFUKKAS.
This. Was. AWESOME. The convention itself was okay - the Dojo was the shining star of the entire thing for me (especially taking the Spears weapons workshop), and watching AMV Hell was cool and I got some good art. But the best two parts: (a) ALL OF THE AMAZING COSPLAY and (b) KOL AND PIXIE. The cosplay was jaw-dropping. Of course at Otakon I got an eyeful of a lot of skilled cosplayers, but in San Jose there were just truckloads of highly talented, creative cosplayers. Being with Kol and Pixie was just killer. None of us are party dudes, but wandering around and trying all of the good San Jose food and listening to those two giggle like ten year old girls over nothing was just precious. I hope they can forgive how low-energy I was that weekend, but I had a fantastical time and I'm already plotting for next year (WHEELCHAIR MERCURY COSPLAY OH YEAH).
-----
And then I came back, and got totally sick XD I'm mostly better now - still a bit of gunky junk in my throat that won't leave, but I'm sleeping better and I have most of my energy mostly back. The worst part still is staying up late coughing, but hopefully that goes away soon.
This week I'm spending still in rest-mode, but I'm also seriously thinking about my next direction in terms of THE JOB. Also sort of bizarrely I've been in a hyper-active Dragon Ball Z mode lately, which thankfully has not been killed off by watching the piss-terrible live action movie tonight. Also hoping I can get my energy together tomorrow andDO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE get at least two posts out of the way tomorrow.
Randomly, I have been doing just practice sketches at Tegaki lately - impersona @ tegaki to see...me do practice sketches. For my friends who are skilled in the art of art-fu, I will freely accept whatever advice and recommendations you have. I bought this tablet so I can IMPROVE! Or like, even if you aren't in the advice mood, hit me up and maybe we can do 10-minute sketch wars or something. It's cool.
A Big Thing might happen soon too. Not at liberty to say cause I'm not 100% sure it'll work yet, but I'll let ya'll know when I'm certain.
