Let me slip away
uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunf to sleeping in, unf I say.
Series: Chaos Crisis
Characters: Mitsuko, Kazuo
When Mitsuko let herself into the apartment, she didn't find her boyfriend by the television, or at his table strewn with broken gadgets. The bathroom was unoccupied, kitchen empty. So she knocked at his half-open bedroom door, peeked, then let herself in.
Kazuo was at his balcony, knelt sadly over a collection of shattered clay pots. A half-dead marigold, a recent rescue, sat nearby in a peanut butter jar filled with dirt. A violet and a rose were transferred into individual coffee mugs, among other plants. Soil spilled around and behindKazuo, even through the balcony door and onto the carpet in dark, Oxford-shaped splotches. Mitsuko stepped around the stains, towards him.
"Kazu-kun," she said, softly, "perhaps Tuxedo Kamen-san needs a new entrance."
"Where?" He kept his head bowed as he scraped up more clay and dirt with his hand broom. "Somebody would notice if I went to the roof every time I came and left."
She didn't know how to answer, so she moved behind him, taking a mug in hand. Despite what must have been a distressing fall, the violet had perked since she last visited. Mitsuko brushed it with her finger, and found herself pleased to see the sickly blue veins gone from its leaves. This must be a taste of why he rescued the plants at all.
"Then I'll adopt some," she decided. "And when the others get healthy, we should plant them, Kazuo. Then they can grow in the park, and have little plantlings of their own." She touched his shoulder. "And you won't have so many pots to knock over."
"Yeah," he finally agreed. Then Kazuo smiled, which was all she really wanted.
