Honestly, I think Leviathan was the best YA that I've read in the past few years. My high opinion of it rides on two things. The first is the treatment of the lead female character, who is a tomboy who really isn't 'faking it' - being violent and brash and hardcore is clearly something in her nature, female or not. The second is just the sheer novelty of the premise - WWI Gundams vs. domesticated Lovecraftian horrors.
The only part that really annoyed me was the POV of Alex, the male lead, cause I found him a bit too weak-willed and insufferable. Maybe he got better in the second book! I'll have to figure it out.
I'm putting Arcadia Falls away until a time when I'm not constantly stressed and panicking. I do want to finish it, but just getting pissed at it a lot isn't helping anyone.
