I've only seen about half of the fifth season so far, but I think Eleven is very different from Ten, and maybe even Nine, and it might be better to start with the beginning of the first season and going from there. That would let you ramp up with the show itself, not to mention Nine is awesome in his own special way, with his snarkiness and his sharp black jacket. <3
I don't think the weeping angels episodes in the fifth season are BAD, per se, but I almost think it would be better if they used a different monster than the weeping angels. They kind of suffer from sequel syndrome. They're most effective as a one-time monster, I think, because the terror they generate comes from the mystery around them, learning about their nature and having to come face to face with it. "Blink" (the weeping angels' first and only other appearance) was incredible and scary largely in part of that, and imo, is the best of the stories thus far. You can't have that same sort of revealing terror again, I think, because they lose a bit of their scariness once you know what you're up against (on that note, if you don't watch any other DW, at least watch "Blink", because it's a mind-bending, very well written story and scary as hell. XD)
But yes, I wouldn't despair just yet! <3 There are some really great episodes in the first four seasons that are totally worth watching, as well as some awesome characters, like Captain Jack and Donna Noble (easily my most favorite companion--she's extremely real and doesn't take any crap from the Doctor XD). Starting from the beginning will give you the chance to really get to know them and the show. <3
