Again, I know that a Sherlock With A Heart isn't exactly in-character, but I am endeared strongly to Brett's take on it.
Au contraire, Sherlock Holmes is awkward and an intellectual snob, not indifferent! That's a fandom peeve of mine, actually, as a fan of the original stories; he's abrasive, arrogant, and cerebral, but he does help people for a living. :P Anyway, it must be interesting to watch the Brett series and the Cumberbatch series around the same time; I like both, though I haven't seen the Brett series in years. I actually agree with you on the gay jokes in Sherlock, by the way, I think they're condescending and pandering and don't amount to an attempt at realism or at portraying queerness well.
I can't comment on Doctor Who, though, being too distracted by the rhapsody in awful that was the Captain America movie last night.
