zuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurgh
So anxiety is something that always hits me very hard, and that's what's been up with me for the past few days. (Well, I also badly cut one of my index fingers at work, which has made typing a bit tough and way slow). I'm incredibly anxious about moving, and about really stupid stuff too. Like the possibility that my car explodes on the way and I lose everything, and have to use all of my funds to buy a new car to get out there. Or getting robbed. Or just underestimating how much money I needed in general, and ending up broke by May and unable to go to Fanime. Or a thousand other things. I just have to wait until my excitement overpowers my anxiety again.
This is my last week of full-time work at least, and next week I only work 17 hours. Hurrah for that at least. And my coworkers are all incredibly excited for me, which feels nice because I always felt that a lot of them couldn't give a shit about me one way or another.
Anyways, I just chilled out yesterday and filled out tax forms, and today I'm going to mail them out and try to get a few other odds-and-ends sorted out (like laundry, and sorting out my winter stuff from my summer stuff.) I also hope the Goodwill takes the yarn/fabric I don't want. Angie and I are going to eat at the downtown tonight, at Apollo Grill, which I always meant to eat at but never got around to XD
Also, I have not forgotten about Restless Heavens! Today and yesterday I've been reading A Thousand Miles of Wind, which is probably the most socio-political novel in the series, and taking down a shitload of notes. Already I found a few major errors in information I had started to assemble on the Wiki, so in April I'll be able to go back and revise, and obviously finish the rest of the major articles. While Tokyopop's translations are awesome to read while out and on the go, I recommend re-reading using the Eugene Woodbury translations, since he offers extremely helpful language and context notes for every chapter. More than anything, his resource has been the most helpful to me so far.
Also I've decided that Sou accidentally (...sort of) gets plagued with pineapple trees. Hee.
12. In what story did you feel you did the best job of worldbuilding? Any side-notes on it you'd like to share?
D:
World-building = not my cup of tea.
Er...
*scratches nose*
Yeah next question.
13. What's your favorite culture to write, fictional or not?
I don't know if it counts as a 'culture', but I love the fairy-tale-ish culture that exists for Gesma a lot. It's something about the way we write the dialogue and descriptions of the characters that I love, and I tend to feel that when I write a good Warren/Vay/Liam piece, that it is bursting with a classical mood that I wish I could emulate for ALL of my writing. Regency and also Silver Millenium count for the same reason.
14. How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?
Ahahahahahahahaha see world-building. Generally I hate describing places and locations, and am happy saying "SOMEWHERE A HUNDRED MILES NORTH, WARREN IS HARVESTING MUSHROOMS IN A FOREST". Or "hey so where does Deon tend to go running?" "Uh, EVERYWHERE."
15. Midway question! Tell us about a writer you admire, whether professional or not!
STEPHEN KING AND ISAAC ASIMOV.
King's been my write-spiration since I was like, 11. Asimov I only discovered in college, but fell in love with his style immediately. What I admire in these two guys is their ability to weave all-encompassing stories, to make you feel like you are hearing them by a fireside or hearing them second-hand from a friend. Asimov is undoubtedly more put-together than King, and can weave one hell of a psychological-mystery. King, on the other hand, is the champion of the WTF factor which I admire so much in stories.
In terms of style, Robin McKinley and Anne Rice are my inspirations. Not so much in their storytelling (ahahaha especially for the latter), but the way they use words is just liquid and enchanting.
Politically and world-building-wise, I'm trying to learn from Fuyumi Ono, since she writes one of the few political-fantasies that I don't want to fling against a wall repeatedly. (Also Game of Thrones, once I finish reading the damn thing.)
16. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how “far” are you willing to go in your writing? ;)
Yep! I don't know if I do particularly well with them or not, and I really really really try to insure that my character is interesting beyond the romantic angle (Kazuo was the biggest challenge for this, mostly because Tuxedo Kamen's primary job description is as BOYFRIEND TO SAILOR MOON). As some people know well, when I write a romantic pairing, I love making the characters wait a long, long, long time until they are like "OH HAY. THOSE FUNNY FEELINGS ARE BECAUSE OF YOU." or, even if they realize the feelings fairly quickly, other factors prevent them from acting on it (Kazuo: death, Deon: being stupid and stubborn). I find the evolution of the emotions and of the relationship along the way to be amazingly interesting. Even when writing a stable relationship, like Kaz and Mitsuko, I like to focus on the challenges. I think there is nothing fun about writing a normal, functioning romantic relationship XD
I've written 'all the way' before, but most of it tends to suck hard (I feel like I'm constantly chasing after wherever the hands and mouths want to go). If I do a bed scene, I prefer to do it as bed-talk or the morning-after.
AS YOUR REWARD FOR READING THESE THINGS I WRITE, HAVE THE THREE SONGS I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO ON REPEAT CONSTANTLY FOR THE LAST WEEK.
Shark in the Water - VV Brown
Conventional Friend - Cartel
Deep South - Cartel (I wish this could be a Deon song, some of the lyrics are spot-on, but the LA LA I'M FROM THE DEEP SOUTH part doesn't fit at all for obvious reasons. However, I might make a Southern gentlemen character from it XD For either CoMi or Mystics of Tarot, depending.)
OKAY THAT'S ENOUGH FOR TODAY, NOW FOR DOING STUFF.

Date: 2010-03-16 06:06 pm (UTC)DO NOT WORRY about Fanime! If push comes to shove, I'll cover the expenses and you can pay me back with awesome fics. <3 I'll help with the Taiki outfit once you're out here, too.
I need to read the third 12K novel yet (finished the second one -- EEEE TAIKI IS JUST TOO PRECIOUS <3), and I'm thinking I'll read the Woodbury translation instead of hunting down the novel for the time being. Still need to finish the anime series, too...
IT WILL ALL BE GOOD. ^_^
PEE ESS. I am actually doing that 30 Days memething! So you like don't have to kick me in the teeth now. ^_^ First one went up yesterday.

Date: 2010-03-16 06:38 pm (UTC)IN MORE PLEASANT NEWS, TAIKI IS LIKE, THE EPITOME OF PRECIOUS.
ffffffffff I REALLY HIGHLY DOUBT I'd be out of money by Fanime. This is just Sage, flipping her lid. Plus, I'll be back to work in June, and all that I have saved really really should cover two months XD

Date: 2010-03-16 07:13 pm (UTC)(Oh! I changed the room reservation so that we arrive on Thursday (better chance of getting on the same floor as Kol and Ren) and leave on Tuesday (so I don't have to change out of Rakushun in the loo of the Hilton after the photo shoot Monday afternoon then drive back to Vegas). I'll cover the added expense, since it's the rat what made me do it. XD)
That is so cool that your mom's done costuming! I'm picking the brains of the fursuit community for tips on Rakushun -- I have the head pretty well sorted in my mind, but I'm running up against figuring out a good way to do the body, which will have a dropped crotch. It will involve padding of some sort, I know that much. (So will the legs, but I have the engineering of those sorted.) I just don't want to swelter in it any more than I already will be. XD
Oh man, Taiki's ceremonial robe would be gorgeous! You know, I bet Charis has pics of it -- which reminds me, I need to poke her again about scans from the ref books she has for Rakushun pics. ^_^ Rishies is the source of all knowledge regarding 12K.
WE WILL BE AWESOME AND FABULOUS AT THE JUUNI KOKKI/12K GATHERING. I am so flippin' excited!
((DUDE SERIOUSLY ABOUT THE HORRID HORRID PERVY ASPECTS OF 12K FANDOM O_O))

Date: 2010-03-16 07:22 pm (UTC)I want to see the Rakushun suit while it is in progress O_O maybe we just need to set a day or two aside in April/May where we can work and conspire on our outfits. I am bringing my sewing machine with me to Vegas (I don't know if you have/need one though) but we could abuse that.
What are you doing about your costume's eyes, randomly?

Date: 2010-03-16 07:52 pm (UTC)The eyes were one of the first things I puzzled out. XD Luckily, Rakushun has nice big adoraboo eyes, so I plan on positioning them in the head in such a way as I can actually see through them. Black buckram will cover the holes -- easy enough to see through, and dark enough that no-one will be able to see in -- and I'll add some golden-brown colouring around the edges and maybe a bit of highlighting. The buckram will get glued to the back of clear half-domes, like those Christmas-tree ornament-making things you can get at craft stores, then set into the head -- might leave a bit of buckram open around the tearduct areas for ventilation, so the domes don't fog up. Then a bit of black craft foam or faux leather around the top to form something of a lid, which with the fur will help hide the joint between eyes and head. ^____^ (I need to do a design sketch. Tonight. XD)
I'll prolly still need a handler to help with vision (Kol has volunteered for one day, and has suggested a repeat of last year's cupcake run in conjunction with it XD), but for the most part I should be able to see just fine. ^_^
