day 26: are you sadistic to your characters? where do you draw the line?

I used to be sadistic to my characters just for the shit of it.  Like, from what little I've let my mother know/read about what I write, I think she's convinced that I write in order to satisfy this latent serial killer deep hidden within my soul.  But I've honestly felt like that's eased off in the past few years.  I now aim to be only sadistic enough to be effective in evoking a change in my character.  Characters with a lot of hubris (Warren), or who are particularly thick-skulled (Rick) are still going to get hit the hardest.  In fact, I'm actually considering rewriting a bit of Vay and Liam's pasts so I don't kill off nearly as many people.  Not sure why I grabbed the kill-hammer so often in the past - I guess it's time to get a little bit more creative with this kind of torture.

day 27: a scene that made you shout/gasp/laugh out loud (and get some weird looks in the process)

Oh jeez.  Hm.  I remember one of Gryle's shorts did this to me recently - the one where Mad Scientist Irv is seeing Melanie off for a date.  I want to say that Controbando and Semper Fi, Dude were the other two in recent memory.  I know I'm forgetting some.  Oh yeah, What If All Of Your Friends Were On Rye? I think, the story Z wrote with Alex, Ari, and Val.

Edit: now I remember, Katie's story Sic Probo had this little snippet in the middle that had me braying like a horse.

day 28: character you'd most want to hang out with IRL

My own: Kazuo or Rae.  Rae would probably be a more relaxing day of gaming and yelling at freshmen, Kazuo can teach me how to fix my car and steal pretty diamonds.
Other people's: Reed, Mitsuko, Dusty.

day 29: character you'd cross the street to avoid IRL

My own: Liam (well upon looking at him I wouldn't cross the street cause I have a Thing for pretty floppy hair on boys but otherwise I would run).
Other people's: Neve (sorry, but she's INTENSE and I'd probably assume she's crazy/homeless).  I can't believe I can't think of more.  Derp. I blame the cold.  

day 30: a location/setting you'd like to play in the future

Well.

More seriously...I would like to successfully do a New York City game at some point, and if that is too unwieldy, then a Philadelphia game.  In terms of outside of the US, I actually would like to see a game try South Africa or South America.  I know it would seem kinda ballsy to some people, but I believe that we RP to expand our horizons in a way that a person alone might not be able to.  So why the hell not?  I've always been fascinated with Johannesburg in particular, and would love an excuse to write with that as a setting. 

Tomorrow at some point I will write up a summary of some of my favorite RPs and stories I've done from the last year.  In the meantime, thank you for following this meme!  

Also, you haven't seen me for the last week cause I've been INSANELY SICK.  Like, nausea and fever and slept through all of Tuesday and endless dripping snot-ness out of my face.  Ooof.  Can't remember the last time I had it this bad.

If you do choose to do anything set in Jo'burg, I have a friend from and currently still residing there. She may be able to hook you (us?) up with some inside track information. It's a strange city with a lot of deep, completely unhealed wounds. It'd be rife with potential conflict and a lot of difficult character/plot minefields to pick one's way through.

That is freaking awesome. I can't imagine being able to start a project like that any time soon, but when it seems reasonable for me to start it, I will let you know. Frankly a large chunk of the mystique it has for me is the inherent conflicts and tensions that EVERY character will have to face there, especially in regards to the end of the Apartheid era and how difficult it can be to really stop racism even after the laws enforcing it have crumbled down. And I really do like to address racism when a setting calls for it, partly because it is a desperately human facet of our nature to judge others by our own standards of normal, and because you almost never see people dare to try to address it in RP.

PS I was thinking, if I did, it'd be either a sort of HP RPG or something along the lines of FreakAngels. Anyways XD
