Mostly just posting something to indicate that yes, I do live.  I've just been uberwonky as of late, and inconsistent and ADD and etc.

Fanime made me so happy ;_;  It's one thing to have an online network of patently awesome people, but it is another thing to actually see the people and interact with them.  Plus, looking at all of the beautiful cosplaying is forever my favorite part of Fanime itself.

I did come to a conclusion afterwards though - I need to make more of an effort to make more friends IRL.  That sounds very terrible but it is true.  I object to making friends with co-workers because I'm not interested in people at work knowing too much about my private business, so I have to find other outlets and other ways to connect with people offline.  I found a knitting shop that is nice to sit and chill at, and I have to look more into finding more interest-based networks.

HERPA DERP, FRIENDS <3

I should have pictures of pretty knitted things I made later this week <3  including a shrug and some mitts.

HA HA, why is that awful? It's probably a good idea! Just be prepared for it to take some time. I read a study that says it takes on average two years for a person to rebuild their social circle after they move. I found that to be pretty much spot on when I moved to Tucson, and it's not shaping up to be any easier out here.

Yeah, moving around a lot is not really conductive to forming lasting friendships, so you shouldn't feel bad about that at all. I do have one piece of advice, and that's to possibly reevaluate your position on no coworker friendships, because coworkers can often turn into great friends. Maybe if you find yourself at a job where you feel more at home and like what you do you might be less adverse to the idea? I can see you being reluctant to connect to coworkers if you're in a job that makes you miserable, and sometimes even in a great job you just won't click with each other. The knitting group is a really great idea, though!

The knitting shop that was next to me at the Steampunk con? They seemed like nice folks :-)

And its important to have friends AROUND where you are, because people on the internet cannot go to the movies with you, or to the park, or to downtown SF wearing silly hats....

That doesn't sound terrible at all! Like Fyre said, it's all well and good to have friends with whom you interact IRL on those rare occasions you're all in the same place at the same time, but there's nothing like having a regular localcrew to run with. <3

I agree with everyone, it's not at all terrible! <3 Having RL friends is awesome for lunch dates and movies and going to fun local events and the like. The knitting shop is a great place to start!

(Also eeee knitting photos can't wait to see how they turned out! <3 <3 <3)

I agree with everyone else. It is important to have some RL friends, too. It balances everything and it's good to have people you can see and do more spontaneous things with. Movies and dinner and all that. Even if it's just a handful, they're important.

... Which means I should call Shannon and Jeni and Debi and stop being a work/internet eaten doof. *facepalm*

Anyway, you're an awesome person online and off. You'll find some fleshy folks to hang with. <3
