Somewhere in the middle of pouring rain

ONLY 200 WORDS IS HARD D: I'm thinking that if I'm a good girl and stick to 200 words all this week, I'll allow myself to go up to 500 words starting next week XD
Series: Kingdom (April 2008, pre-campaign)
Character: Valentino
Valentino let the gym doors crash shut behind him, and her laughter seemed to chase him into the parking lot. How could he miss it? Of course there had been another guy, and of course everyone now probably thought he was an idiot and a jerk. He shut his eyes and balled his fists, and stamped hard once, twice into the asphalt.
And then, to add injury to insult, his left shin seized in an explosion of pain. His eyes snapped open, fiercely towards his feet, until his anger shuddered into mere confusion.
In front of him, inexplicably, was a layered pillar of asphalt, stone, and earth about the height of a footstool. Valentino lifted his palms up, and stepped backwards away from it.
"That was there. That was there the whole time." Cause, of course, a random chunk of asphalt would be sitting in the school parking lot. But to prove himself right, Valentino stamped again. The spike remained still.
Why would he even think that he had anything to do with it?
"God, now you're stupid and crazy," he accused himself. Valentino glared at the anomaly, then ran the rest of the way to his car.
